It was a joy to hear Sara Jablow's experiences with Admeo, SPICA β and how it has shaped QC at Far Ninete:
"SPICA, whom we call Wall-E, has been a lifesaver! SPICA has saved me a lot of time and stress in the lab; I have time to focus on the numbers instead of generating the numbers.
SPICA is made for wine making with winemaker in mind, the customer service has been fantastic and they're always continuing to develop the machine. A company that understands the real-world needs of a winemaker is second to none. I never feel like we're second fiddle and in addition to being an easy product, the enzymes are reliable. It's really easy to work with the people at Admeo.
Customer support is phenomenal, you always go above and beyond. The training was thorough, and support is prompt and everyone at Admeo is so friendly and accommodating. With a week to go before harvest, we were able to quickly learn how to use SPICA.
SPICA is incredibly intuitive and user friendly for running analysis. The enzymes are made specifically for the machine, so there is less waste. I can run my analysis and walk away. The kits are straightforward; I never worry about running out of one part of an enzyme. The fact that they're made to work seamlessly has reduced waste and increased speed and to me, that was awesome. It's so easy to use.
We're Napa Green certified and we strive to be environmentally conscious. SPICA is part of the plan to reduce waste and be greener. Lab waste can add up quickly and we're cognizant of the impact that we're making.
We do a lot of barrel fermented Chardonnays and we run everything in house, so having rapid malic results are important. We don't go through ML, so we test almost every barrel right at the beginning of fermentation and make sure we're not seeing any changes. We have about 1500 barrels and being able to quickly analyze those, make sure that the barrel fermented Chardonnay has gone through primary fermentation but not secondary. The overall health of our wines is important and with SPICA, I know exactly what's going on and can make decisions quickly.
I can direct SPICA to run a malic acid mid run and that's changed my workflow as a winemaker to where the machine is working for me, I'm not working for the machine. It can do anything I need and help me make good decisions quickly, and I can run samples barrel-by-barrel, without it being cost prohibitive to send out. It increases quality because you're not just deciding based on an assumption. You're making a decision based on all the information that you could have. You don't have to think about sending out for a $50 test or pulling 50 mills of a sample, you just need a tiny drop and will get your answer quickly."
