How Barn Owls Can Contribute to Integrated Management of Rodent Pests in Vineyards
Speaker: Dr. Matthew Johnson, Cal Poly Humboldt
Dr. Johnson describes findings from his team's research on barn owls using nest boxes in Napa Valley. He presents results applicable for both producers and ecologists, including:
- Recommendations for nest box design and placement to maximize owl occupancy.
- Analysis of where the owls hunt.
- How many rodents they kill per year.
- The impact of their hunting on rodent activity within vineyards.
