What makes us different?

Scott Labs is the only independent North America-owned cork company. Our independence is the cornerstone of our program.

• Independence protects customer interest over supplier interest. We have no incentive to accept lots of cork that do not meet the most stringent quality control specifications.
• Our TCA testing protocols are done prior to even purchasing raw materials. These tests are performed by ETS Laboratories. We believe that third party testing removes any conflict of interest within the supply chain.

We've done the leg work for you

• Visual Inspection: Scott Lab's Portuguese operations were established in 1976. The team is responsible for ensuring all visual grades meet our expectations, as well as controlling the lots we receive from our suppliers.
  
• Sample Testing: Once corks have met our visual grade, our QC department in Portugal pulls samples from each bale to send to us in Petaluma. From there, we perform soaks and send the pour-off to ETS Labs for analysis. It is important to know that we test each bale, and before it is approved to ship, it must meet our standards of <1.0 ppt., which is more stringent than the Cork Quality Council threshold of 1.4 ppt.
• In-House Inspection:  Only when all scores of each bale are <1.0 ppt., will we approve that lot to ship to us here at Scott Laboratories in Petaluma. Once it arrives, we test each bale again. If any of these bales test >1.0 ppt., we will reject the lot and send it back to Portugal to the supplier. If the results are <1.0 ppt., we will then accept the lot.
• Checks & Balances: We do not pay for the cork until it passes our strict QC protocols, so we have the flexibility to scrutinize each lot. For our customers, this means we can offer an optional ScottPlus™ Guarantee at the lowest cost possible.
