
With both QB Desktop and QB Online there are a few automated things that can negatively impact your workflow. We’re going to go over key settings to adjust for QB Desktop which will result in fewer pop-ups and fewer interruptions.
Spell Check:
In practice, it’s nice to have, however, QuickBooks doesn’t recognize words like Gewurztraminer or Ehrenfelser, so spell check often just becomes an annoyance with many wine industry words.
To turn it off, go to the Main Menu > Edit > Preferences > Spelling > My Preferences > uncheck the “always check spelling” checkbox.
Reminders:
Some reminders are unnecessary and can interrupt third-party integrations like Bill.com or WGits. To turn off some reminders, go to Edit > Preferences > Reminders > and then go through and switch off whichever ones you can. Usually, you can turn off most or all of these.
Memorized Transactions:
You may need memorized transactions to help you automatically pay monthly bills. If possible, it’s best to set these up to happen on the same day each month. This will lessen the number of times the memorized transaction pop-up will appear each month, and it will be less likely to impact automated integrations.
Login to your Intuit Account:
Have you ever seen this image? Intuit requires many users to log in every 90 days, so a pop-up window will appear when opening QuickBooks. If you don’t log in to this, the window will just appear automatically every seven days (14 days if you’re on an older version of QB Desktop, such as 21 or 22). Login to the Intuit account even if it takes a moment to find your password. Not only will this save you time in the long run when this won’t show up once a week, but it will also prevent any third-party or automated integrations from getting blocked by the pop-up.
Setup memorized reports:
Do you have a report that you tend to create every time? Why not save it as a custom memorized report? You can quickly open the report, and it will have all the specific values you care about.
