Kentucky is still still making changes to their processes and it's hard for their newly licensed direct shippers to keep up! Here's the latest you need to know if your company is shipping wine to consumers in Kentucky: Every direct shipper needs an excise tax account for reporting and tax payment. Your business registration with the KY Dept. of Revenue created your sales tax account but does not automatically open an excise tax account. For that, you need to directly contact Elizabeth Gonzalez at the DOR and provide this information: your mailing address and the name, email, and phone number of the person doing tax reporting. You can contact Elizabeth at 502-564-9250. Also, Kentucky is in the middle of changing its excise tax forms and due dates. The excise tax return, which was originally due quarterly, will be due monthly as of April 1 2021...April Fools? We wish! The new form is not yet available so direct shippers should report their first quarter shipments in April

Vineyard Team's Juan Nevarez Memorial Scholarship Helping Children of Wine Industry Workers Higher education is important to many students but paying for college can be challenging. The Juan Nevarez Memorial Scholarship makes higher education investments in the children of California's vineyard and winery workers. The majority of awardees are the first in their family to attend college. First-generation students have more barriers when it comes to attaining higher education – they cannot ask their parents how to navigate the system, budgets are often tight, and they can feel guilty for leaving their families. This funding helps students and their families achieve their dream of becoming a college graduate and pursuing a professional career. More Than a Scholarship Because our goal is college success, the program includes multi-year scholarships to trade, two-, or four-year schools. We also provide a dedicated mentor to support the students throughout their collegi

The Power of a Mentor Did you know that 33% of first-generation students leave college within three years of starting (Education Advisory Board)? While there are many contributing factors, the main reasons first-generation students leave are: Financial burdens. Lack of support. Inequitable access to resources. Because of your past generosity, the Juan Nevarez Memorial Scholarship has expanded to address each of those factors.
