We are certainly living in different times—times that are difficult to predict and even harder to plan for. Challenges originating far outside our professional world are quickly impacting our day-to-day operations and, ultimately, your business. Throughout 2026, suppliers across the industry have faced significant disruption, and those challenges have inevitably flowed downstream to our valued wine and spirits customers. While none of us welcome this level of uncertainty, it is also not entirely unexpected given the global environment we’re operating in. Recently, the Wine Industry Network published a timely and insightful article that underscores the importance of preparation. The message is clear: we must plan ahead, secure what we can, and remain ready for continued volatility. Duties, tariffs, currency fluctuations, transportation challenges, and unexpected fees are all contributing to rising costs—and the reality is, no one can predict what will come next. What

Why Age-Verification is Not an Issue for Direct-to-Consumer Sales Early in the practice of Direct to Consumer (DTC) shipping of wine, age verification was a major concern and often used by some to argue why DTC should not be allowed. But we have come a long way since the wine industry began shipping its products to customers in 1987 (35 years ago). Thanks to technology and modern, responsible carriers such as UPS and FedEx, the risk of minors possessing alcohol that was delivered DTC is unlikely.   Published February 9, 2022 - The Executive Summary in response to the Executive Order 14036, “Promoting Competition in the American Economy” states “The direct-to-consumer model, common in wine, has been spreading to beer and spirits and offers distribution opportunities for small producers. Vinoshipper Releases Study Dispelling Myth of Minor Access of Alcohol Through Direct Sales
Windsor, CA, February 20, 2023 —Online wine shipping e-commerce and compliance platform, Vinoshipper, has released a first-of-its-kind study to show that e-commerce platforms with age-verification software are 100 percent effective at stopping illegal sales of alcoholic beverages to minors. The study shows that direct-to-consumer sales are the safest way for alcohol to be sold and pre-purchase age verification software is a cost effective and reliable way to block and measure minors’ attempt to purchase alcohol online. It also demonstrates that minors are not attempting to use direct to consumer avenues in any significant number to secure alcohol. “Lately, there has been a lot of hype about minors gaining access to alcohol through direct-to-consumer sales. But, if you look at the numbers, using an e-commerce platform with age verification stops minors from buying alcohol,” said Vinoshipper CEO Steven Harrison. “We used transaction data with more than 630,0
