When CD & Power started almost 40 years ago, our founder Chuck Uischner had a vision of providing remarkable service powered by integrity. After holding a variety of jobs, Chuck relied on his expertise as a diesel mechanic to launch what was initially called California Diesel & Power in 1985. He was a dreamer and a believer in all that was good. He started CD & Power as a one-man band at the age of 45 and proclaimed that he would someday be the best generator business around. Chuck’s wife Jannett, as well as children Jill (Collaro) and Don, helped build the operation along with him. In smoke testing, the opacity of the engine exhaust tells us how well the equipment is preventing smoke from entering the atmosphere. To get started with your smoke opacity testing services, read for more information about what it is and why it matters. Smoke Opacity Testing In California, heavy-duty vehicles are subject to two state-run programs that help keep our air free of pollution. Such programs are known as the Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection Program (HDVIP) and the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP). As we celebrate Labor Day this year we are pleased to pause and recognize just one corner of our devoted CD & Power team – our apprentices. Back in 2021 we announced that our apprenticeship program had been approved by the California Department of Industrial relations. Since then our managers and administrative staff members have been busy making training materials available to our apprentices, our experienced faculty have conducted numerous in-person training sessions, and we have recorded dozens of training videos to reinforce learning. Our Master Generator Technician program consists of almost 600 hours of instruction and training over a four-year period! Participants learn through a mixture of hands-on training, in-house developed coursework, Industry-recognized material such as the 5th edition of EGSA’s Onsite Power Generation, and training courses offered by equipment partners such as Isuzu, John Deere, and Cummins. Topics range from safety to electrical sy
