Some exciting things are happening from Heyes Filters Inc. and Filtrox (one of our filter partners). Last year, Filtrox launched a Sustainability Report for the company. The 2022 report is now available, and the 2023 report will be published just after the new year and updated yearly.
Last summer, I went to a wine event in Oregon, and the theme was the sustainability of wineries (climate change, soil, bottles, and every subject you can imagine). At this event, there were many wineries from California, Washington, Oregon, and France, all speaking about their sustainability projects. As it turns out, Filtrox had gone into this in a big way as well.
Their program would continue beyond their doorstep. Besides wanting to do this for the planet's good (ownership is very progressive), they hope this increases their visibility to their target industries, and there is no target larger worldwide for them than the wine industry.
As a part of this program, they have introduced the Treedom program. How the program works is, after the customer purchases a set amount of filtration media made up of either filter sheets or lenticular modules (the largest raw material part of their filter media is cellulose, tree material), Filtrox plants trees on their behalf as a way of offsetting the tree material used in making the filter media. The areas that are planted are not just anywhere but located in two places. One in the Filtrox Family Forest (a project they are invested in) and in "Nature" Forests worldwide. Both are monitored, and status is reported.
